True

“The Justice Department is sending monitors to polling places during the 2026 elections.”

The facts: True, and documented in DOJ press releases. The Civil Rights Division Voting Section monitored polling sites through the 2026 primary season: three Arizona counties on July 21, Hennepin and Ramsey counties in Minnesota on August 11 with about 20 staff, Miami-Dade County Florida and Laramie County Wyoming on August 18, Charleston County South Carolina on August 25, and Pawtucket Rhode Island on September 9. By the Rhode Island stop DOJ said it had visited eleven states and hundreds of polling locations. DOJ sent monitors to nine states during the 2022 midterms. DOJ says it will continue through the general election but has not yet named November 3 jurisdictions. It monitored six jurisdictions in California and New Jersey for the November 2025 general. Monitors are not the same as federal observers: DOJ is currently permitted to send statutory observers to only three places, Union County New Jersey, Pawtucket Rhode Island, and St. Landry Parish Louisiana. Monitors observe and enforce federal voting laws including the Voting Rights Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. They do not check voter eligibility, ask for ID, or decide who votes. If federal personnel are at your polling place, vote normally. If anyone interferes with your vote or questions your eligibility, call Election Protection at 866-OUR-VOTE.
