Some voting equipment contains foreign-made components, a supply chain issue documented for years, but there is no evidence anyone has used them to change votes in a U.S. election.
The rumor: Misleading “DHS found Chinese parts in voting machines, so foreign actors can change votes in 2026.”
The facts: A PBS NewsHour fact check found no record of any such attempt, and experts note voting machines are typically not connected to the internet or to each other. Voter registration systems are separate from voting machines. Most states use paper ballots that can be hand counted and audited. Ask your county election office how it tests equipment and audits results.
