Level 1 Certification
Multiple states
Voting rights groups warn local officials may refuse to certify results to delay the conclusion of the November election. Protect Democracy says officials are likely to attempt refusal where they dislike the outcome. Current examples: Vickie Marquardt in Otero County, New Mexico, who refused in 2022 and will not rule out doing it again this fall, and Shasta County, California registrar Clint Curtis, who tried to stall the county declaration of the June primary before admitting his suspicions gave him no legal basis. Certification is a mandatory duty courts can compel.
