North Carolina State Board of Elections

The state board voted 3 to 2 along party lines to eliminate early voting sites on four college campuses for the 2026 primaries: Western Carolina University, UNC Greensboro, Elon University, and North Carolina A and T State University. Board members cited proximity, logistics, and parking. The plans reached the state board from a dozen counties whose local boards could not agree. Students rallied against the decisions. For the November general election the state board later restored the Western Carolina site, while Guilford County campus sites stayed off the plan.
