North Carolina State Board of Elections

The Republican majority on the state board voted along party lines to approve early voting plans eliminating Sunday voting in 10 counties that offered it in the last midterm. Across 13 counties where local boards deadlocked, the board dropped 16 Sunday early voting days, replacing some with longer Saturday hours. Lenoir County also lost Sunday voting. Board Democrats said Sunday hours serve shift workers, long commuters, and caregivers, and state data shows Sunday voting is disproportionately used by Black voters.
