False: Roy Cooper was in New York at a climate event when Hurricane Helene hit North Carolina.

“Roy Cooper was in New York at a climate event when Hurricane Helene hit North Carolina.”

The facts: Cooper was in North Carolina when Helene hit. He spoke at a New York event on Sept. 25, 2024, and was back in the state by 3 p.m. that day. The posts claiming he was away during the storm have the timeline wrong: Helene made landfall on Sept. 27, and he was running briefings at the state Emergency Operations Center in Raleigh on Sept. 26 and 27.
