FactCheck.org found these ads distort the candidates' records.
The rumor: Misleading “Democratic Senate candidates in Ohio, Texas, and Alaska support sex change surgery for kids paid for by taxpayers.”
The facts: In Ohio, the claim rests on a 2023 interview about a federal bill that never got a vote. In Texas, the candidate opposed a 2023 state law as too broad but voted to limit it to surgeries and says he would support a national ban on gender surgery for minors. In Alaska, the cited votes were on defense bill amendments that passed anyway, and military health coverage already barred such surgery; the candidate says she does not want kids getting these surgeries. Gender surgery on minors is rare.
