Unverified: The central post office in Portland is backed up because of equipment upgrades.

Unverified Oregon New

“The central post office in Portland is backed up because of equipment upgrades.”

Status: USPS has posted no processing delay for its Portland, Oregon, regional plant. Posts in Oregon cite a USPS tracking-page notice about delays from equipment upgrades as proof the Portland plant is backed up, but that notice names no facility. USPS has been replacing package sorters at plants across the country all year, shifting package volume to other sites while crews install them. Its October service notices list delays in Louisville, Hurricane Isaias closures in the Gulf, and a Chicago power outage, with nothing for Portland or the Pacific Northwest. The upgrades are for packages. Ballots travel as letter mail. To be safe, mail your ballot by Oct. 27 or use an official drop box.
