True: The administration blocked international observers from the 2026 midterms

True

“The administration blocked international observers from the 2026 midterms”

The facts: True, with context. The OSCE, which has observed every U.S. federal election since 2002, said in September that it received no invitation to observe the Nov. 3 midterms, and the administration has given no reason. International observers watch and report; they have never run or counted U.S. elections. States and counties do, and party and nonpartisan poll observers still work under each state's rules. Questions about observing at your polling place go to your county election office.

How this story developed

  1. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, top Democrat on Senate Foreign Relations, condemns the decision. The administration still has not explained it.
  2. The OSCE says it received no U.S. invitation to observe the midterms, the first time since 2002. No reason has been given.
